Village Grill

Village Grill

Another superb addition to Mastihari's vast array of quality eateries is the Village Grill - hosted by Elias and Nickoletta.

Only been open since June. Fantastic fresh meat cooked to order - get in early or reserve your meal as supplies can run short, such is the Village Grill's popularity. As it is only a grill obviously the choice is limited but if you fancy Liver & Onions, Peppered Steak etc (Elias was trained by David formerly of Chris Mary so you get the picture) then you will not be disappointed.

Village Grill

Postby Mark » Sun 24 Aug 2008, 19:04

Nice to see my old friend Luis getting on, he and Nicole and their litlle girl Gabriella are such a lovely family he deserves so much sucess and if sucess is measured on effort the he will do well.
My main worry is the Grill is not in the heart of things, but heres hoping all works out well.
If you want a quick lunch reasonably priced then it is worth trying.

Village Grill

Postby Vic and Linda » Mon 25 Aug 2008, 16:07

We had a few evening meals at the Grill and I can thoroughly recommend it. I agree they are very nice people and the restaurant was quite busy whenever we went, fortunately it isn't that big so Nicole spent some time chatting to us and everyone made us feel very welcome, we were even introduced to Gabriella when she was brought in to say goodnight to her Mum and Dad - what a cutey :)
Husband and wife in our 50's definite Mastihariophiles! :)

Chas, we wholeheartedly agree with you! Mastihari will be a little bit poorer without the Village Grill. Excellent souvlaki, never got the liver though, I guess you must have beat us to it. :ta:

i have to say that I am absolutely gutted that Elias has had to close The Village Grill .We first met him as a waiter at El Greco ( five years ago I think) and was thrilled for him when he opened his little taverna. My wife and kids truly enjoyed all our meals there , especially when Elias couldnt remember what we had eaten , so bought us a round of drinks while trying to figure it all out ! We got lessons in how to make the best tzatziki and got to meet his gorgeous little girl . The only thing he wouldnt give away was his mums secret recipe for bifteke. We watched him pick his veg from his "garden" and listened to how he sourced all his meat from local butchers, often travelling all round the island to make sure he had the freshest ingredients. Elias was even going to take me out for the night to Kardamena ( hmmmm wasnt quite sure about this :-\ ) so we will truly miss The Village Grill and i just hope that Elias, Nicoletta and his family are ok

Thanks for the welcome madhatter
According to Elias the secret is the cucumber - make sure you squeeze ALL the water out of it before grating and hey presto perfect tzatziki
Have to say that i've tried this at home and somehow when its piddling down with rain and theres a cold wind blowing it doesnt quite taste the same whatever you do !
Perhaps blue skies, hot mediteranean sun, ice cold mythos, and the chilled out atmosphere of Mastichari is the real secret !!

Does anyone know what Eilas is going to do now the Village Grill has closed ?

My tip- grate the cucumber, put it in a sieve, put a plate on top that fits inside the sieve and put a weight of some kind on top of that. Leave for a hour or two or more to get all the liquid out of the cucumber and away you go with your tzatziki. Don't be frightened to put in plenty of fresh garlic (some places use garlic powder but it is not as good) and a pinch of dill also fits if you like the flavour. Also, don't use low fat yoghourt however good you are being!!!!!

Ps. Ilias is now working in the post office at Antimaxia and I will be surprised if he does not turn up somewhere else in the village in the summer doing a second job,so you will be almost certain to see him.
