Jet2 - online check-in from Kos

Jet2 - online check-in from Kos

Postby DaveB » Thu 10 Jun 2010, 11:43

Hi,

Has anyone used the new Jet2 service from Kos yet? I'm wondering how they cope with online check-in. Having used the airport several times in the past I somehow can't see them having a dedicated Jet2 "bag drop" facility and then just allowing you to stroll up to departures with a boarding pass you've printed yourself. [ Or perhaps I'm doing them an injustice? - I hope so ;) ]

Hi DaveB and welcome!!

Can't help with this one, we can't use Jet2 as we live in Kent and they operate from the north, but unless KGS has really got its act together, I somehow doubt it's going to be that simple!! As for us, we'll probably still end up queuing for the Russian flight I expect! :-\

Vic & Linda, Thanks for the welcome. :ta:

I suspect we'll be doing the usual routine as well; get to the airport early to avoid the package holiday buses, check-in the suitcases, retire to the bar across the road for some last ouzo and retsinas. (Until next time that is).

Yep. That's the best way for sure, but two years ago due to the sheer number of people at KGS, we were herded into the package queue, and couldn't sit in that taverna until we saw our inbound flight land before wandering over to go through. We were not happy bunnies at all!!

I'm beginning to wonder if I've done the right thing by using Jet2. Take a look at this reply I received for the same question I asked on the tripadvisor forum - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic- ... anese.html - Gulp! :wot:

Call me a hopeless optimist but the first reply makes me think KGS has been well and truly sorted!

The pain has been felt by the pioneers but they sound to have given a fair bit of that pain back to the ground agents.

I'd bet on things having been properly bedded in by now.

Just returned home from 3 weeks in Mastihari and flew with Jet2.com. The outward journey was just great and we dropped our luggage off at the former Airtours check-in with no queues. It was a little different on our return(wouldn't have expected anything else) it was K(a)OS it didn't matter if you'd checked in on line or not we all waited in the same long queues. The flight was good and on time and I will travel with them again.

Greek officialdom can be infuriating at times. You'd be forgiven for thinking they actually preffered chaos.
Saying that, if that's the way it's going to be, surely it's up to Jet2 to make sure everyone knows you don't necessarily get what it says on the tin when you fly with them and check in online.

If you have the time, patience and eagle-eyesight, you could probably find the minuscule asterisk and footnote that says something like "subject to local conditions" or similar weasely disclaimer words :vsarky:

It's because of things like that, and the stunts that Ryanair in particular are always pulling, that I just don't trust the budget airlines enough to want to fly with them.
I suppose if one of them flew from my local airport (Liverpool) to Kos and they were offering genuinely cheap flights, I'd grin and bear it.
But it seems to me that the cost of flights to Greece are never that cheap anyway, even with the budgets. Well not when I check them they are not anyway. Obviously they are usually a bit less than the others, but not by enough imo to warrant roughing it with them. They practically pay you to fly to the likes of Barcelona and several other European destinations, but it always seems to be a different kettle of fish when it comes to flying to Greece.
Plus, if you are flexible about when you want to go and check the sites often enough, sooner or later you'll find flights just as cheap with TC and Thomson. Put it this way, since travelling independently, we've never paid over £200 for our flights to Kos, and sometimes quite a bit less, and we haven't flown with a budget airline yet.

I know the answer now - We returned from Kos a few days ago and can only echo Angie E's views. Outbound from Manchester the procedure was perfect; inbound from Kos the online check-in facilities were non existent. It was a case of queuing up as normal and going through the whole desk check-in procedure. To make matters worse, we got there in plenty of time but while our eyes were glued to the main departure board that should have showed which check-in desk would be opening for the Jet2 flight, they had opened up the desks at the far end of the terminal but not announced it on the board. So while we were waiting for the announcement there was a nice big queue building up down the far end.

Still - we had time for a quick ouzo at the cafe over the road before departing.

Overall, the experience hasn't put me off using Jet2 again. The flight times were excellent and, (almost), on time, the staff at Manchester and on the flight were friendly and helpful plus there also seemed to be a lot more room on the 'plane.
